Description

The book is Essentials of Life-Span Development 6th Edition I.             FIRST PARAGRAPH: In your own words, describe Erikson’s theory of psychosocial development as is found in your textbook. Include either Erikson’s original 8 stages or include the 9th stage, which Joan Erikson, his wife, included in the theory after his death. This is available in other sources in case you want to include it.   Cite any information you write that comes from your sources.  You may use your textbook for the general Erikson theory and how he defines the stages.  Use in-text citations and include the textbook in your Works Cited Page. MISTRUST Use Erikson’s first stage from your textbook or sources.  Use in-text citations.  According to Erikson, how is this stage significant/important?  How is trust important for a healthy individual?  What can happen if the individual does not achieve trust? Use in-text citations. Write the rest of the paragraph as it pertains to you. Please use I and me, and my parents, etc. No citations needed. For an A paper, I need you to include at least two examples from your own life, as your parents/siblings/relatives recall.  Write, “According to my mother,…..” Based on these examples, do you think you achieved trust or mistrust?  10 pts.     III. PARAGRAPH THREE: AUTONOMY VS. SHAME AND DOUBT In your own words, just as in Paragraph Two, define and describe Erikson’s Stage Two from the textbook or your sources. Use in-text citations. According to Erikson, how important is this stage the psychosocial well-being of the individual? and how not being successful in obtaining the positive outcome might impact the individual. Use in-text citations as you paraphrase from the textbook.   Put yourself through this stage of development and illustrate. (This means give personal examples… If there are at least two examples or illustrations per stage, I will consider this an A paper.) Ask your parents, caregivers or older siblings about your early development as you went through the first two stages.   Do not use examples from your own children or from relatives for these two stages.  This will take points off your personal development focus. State whether you came out of this stage with a positive or negative outcome. Your examples help you reach one or the other conclusion. 10 pts.   III.         PARAGRAPHS 4-6 Stages 3-5 from the textbook or your sources. Use in-text citations. State Erikson’s stage.  These are stages you can remember, and/or are going through right now. According to Erikson, how important is this stage the psychosocial well-being of the individual?  How is not being successful in obtaining the positive outcome might impact the individual. Use in-text citations as you paraphrase from the textbook or other sources. Give personal examples for each of these three stages… If there are at least two examples or illustrations per stage, I will consider this an A paper. State whether you came out of this stage with a positive or negative outcome. Your examples help you reach one or the other conclusion. 30 pts.  (10 per stage)   IV.          PARAGRAPHS 7-9 For the stages you haven’t encountered yet, probably 6, 7 and 8, project how you will go through them, based on your life experience so far, and give examples. You may use positive or negative examples of older people you know for these stages.  You will also need to tell me whether you predict your outcome will be positive or negative for the stages you haven’t encountered yet. Follow the same format as you did in the previous paragraphs: State the stage.  Why is it important?  Cite as you paraphrase from your sources. What is the positive outcome?  What is the negative outcome?  Cite as you paraphrase from your sources. Include at least two examples of people you know for each of these stages, positive or negative, and how they navigated( or didn’t) through these stages.  State whether you’d like to end up like them or not, why or why not. 30 pts. V.       PARAGRAPH 10 Write a conclusion.  This is how you evaluate your life so far and how you are still can make excellent choices to end up having a happy, productive life, according to Erikson.
