Introduction This is the second of two short issue papers you must write during the course. The assignment is due at the end of Unit 6. In the first few units, you read portions of “The Right Stuff” by Tom Wolfe. In Unit 5, you read portions of “How to Make a Spaceship” by Julian Guthrie. Now think about the driving factors behind the manned space exploration programs in the 1960s and in the 2000s. Consider how they were similar and how they were different. For this issue paper, you are to compare and contrast the books to each other. Pick two themes or examples from the books to use as your basis for the comparison and contrast. Assignment Instructions The issue paper is due in Unit 6 by 11:59 pm Sunday, CT. The issue paper must be 2-3 pages (excluding title page and reference page). Citations and the reference page must be in APA format. The papers must be double-spaced using a standard 12-point font with 1-inch margins. While the issue paper will help you think about topics related to the Core Assessment, the issue paper is a separate assignment and may not be incorporated directly into the Core Assessment. Of course, you may reuse a few paragraphs, your research, your thoughts, etc. in the Core Assessment. Just do not plan on copying extensive portions from an issue paper to the Core Assessment paper. Review the rubric so you know how you will be graded. Briefly, you should know that 48% of the grade is based on your analysis, reasoning, and organization; 32% of the grade is based on the content; and 20% is based on grammar, spelling, and formatting. Although not required, to the extent you can, you should try to incorporate interdisciplinary and integrative writing in order to practice with this style before the Core Assessment is due. You should conduct outside research to support your position. Cite any sources used. While there is no minimum number of sources required to get a high grade, you should plan on using at least one outside source because 1/3 of the grade is based on your content. Therefore, you want to make sure you have sufficient content to support your position.
