Introduction This is the only section where you do not use the heading. Please discuss your the theory from which you derived your topic. Compare and contrast that theory with other organizational change theories. The introduction should also contain your hypothesis statement, and that is exactly what I expect a statement, one sentence, not an extended description of what you deem to be the hypothesis. Use the following format, “There is a relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable.” I have had students actually use the example verbatim so please use your own variables in the underlined portions of the example I provided. III. Literature Review The literature review contains a discussion of each of the articles you are using. Whether it is a study or an experiment you will discuss it in detail. Who are the participants? The breakdown by age, gender, ethnicity, race, socioeconomic status, etc. You will discuss the findings of each article and whether those findings support or reject your hypothesis. Please make sure you use articles that explore the relationship between the two variables in your hypothesis. IV. Conclusion Please summarize your findings in this section. This is where you summarize you whole paper telling me what you told me in summary form. Please mention whether overall your hypothesis was supported or rejected by the literature review. Please also discuss the need for future research and why that need exists. V. References Please include the reference list that alludes to the in-text citations in your paper. Please do not forget to cite giving credit to your sources! Use the above for also completing your outline. Your outline should include each of the sections above with an explanation of what you plan to include in each section. Be sure to include the topic and hypothesis in the “Introduction” section. I am including a sample paper. The paper is from one of my high school students that I taught in Dual Enrollment Federal Government. The paper uses separate Findings and Conclusion headings. The paper is not perfect, it does have some formatting and grammatical errors but it was the best paper that I could find as an example for good research paper structure and content. As always if you have APA formatting and style questions refer to the APA Manual and/or the Purdue Owl website. Good luck with your research paper and I hope this helps a bit. If I return it to you with a request for modifications then you will receive a 70. If the outline is correct, your topic and hypothesis are accepted and the feedback states that your topic and hypothesis have been approved you will receive a 100. You will be given a deadline to resubmit if it is not approved. Remember be timely on your resubmissions, it is your responsibility to resubmit your work, and also remember that if you do not get approval on your topic and hypothesis your paper will not be accepted and you will receive a zero for the paper. Research Paper Due Date: November 22, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. The outline will consist of the “skeleton” of your paper. You should consider the following headings for your outline. I. Introduction Here you will discuss your topic (based on some theory, concept, or idea in your textbook). A short discuss about why you think the topic is important and why you want to study it. In the introduction you will also enter your hypothesis. II. Literature Review If you have no articles yet just indicate here that in this section you will discuss in detail that article and how it relates to your hypothesis. State that in this section you will indicate if the study findings in the article supported or rejected your hypothesis. III. Findings – Indicate that in this section you will discuss and summarize all your findings. IV. Conclusion and Future Research – Indicate that you will provide an overall summary of your research here and the implications for future research. Your hypothesis should be under the heading “Introduction”. Your hypothesis should consist of the relationship between two variables, an independent variable and a dependent variable. If, for example, I was interested in researching the relationship between power and beauty in the United States then my hypothesis (hint: This is how you should write it in your paper) would be: H1 – There is a relationship between beauty and power in the United States. Note: Beauty is the independent variable in this hypothesis and power is the dependent variable. Power is dependent on how beautiful a person is. According to some studies, the more beautiful a person is the more access to benefits they have in the society, e.g., money, position, wealth, jobs, etc. A hypothesis is a statement not a question and it is one sentence, not a whole paragraph describing your topic. The reason that I am requiring an outline from you is that I want to make sure that at the 2nd week of your course you have already identified a topic and developed a hypothesis. By the way, you need to find a theory with which you are comfortable in your textbook and develop your hypothesis from that theory. With regards to the example that I used, it is evident that I took a liking to Chapter 13 of the book where the concepts and theories regarding power reside within your textbook. Once I would have read the chapter then I would have decided that I want to explore how power and beauty relate, thus my hypothesis. We will be discussing the research paper in the sessions we conduct on Blackboard but if you have any questions join me during virtual office hours or contact me via Pronto or Blackboard messaging.
